Several days ago, browsing at Goodwill for i forget-what-widget, i came upon a small Sony book-shelf stereo. The casing was the same colour wood as the shelf in my living room and i thought it might look well there instead of the nice but useless filler-piece that was there. Besides, i liked the drop-slot CD mechanism.
It was a day or so before i got around to wiring the speakers and yesterday evening i hooked them up and sat down to listen to some music. It worked like a charm.
Once the CD started playing, Nicki perked up and came over to sniff one of the speakers. After an initial sniff, he did a true RCA dog pose and then lay down between me and the speakers. He's never given any sign of attention to the music coming out of the desk-top speakers. Perhaps in that case his brain classifies it as ambient noise from somewhere up there whereas with speakers set near to the ground he can hone in on a source that needs investigating.
